Promises Made, Promises Broken, Rule Of Law, Just A Token

In his 2008-2009 campaign to capture the Presidency, Obama’s mantra was ‘hope and change.’ Promises were made such as transparency of government and the rule of law. The ‘transparency in government’ promise was discarded when the administration passed ‘The Affordable Care Act’ in 2010 without consultation with Republican congressmen and women. Recall the infamous remark of Speaker Pelosi when she said “We have to pass the healthcare bill so you can find out what is in it.”

The IRS has been engaging for several years in a plan to undermine freedom of expression by the Tea Party and other conservative groups. Applications representing liberal and ‘progressive’ alliances seeking 501(c)(4) status were processed in 238 days while conservative applications were averaging 574 days. Both White House Counsel and Chief of Staff were aware of the scandal and supposedly never told the President. That behavior by top officials smacks of cover-up, malfeasance and dereliction of duty.

Former IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman met with the President more than 100 times during his tenure (3/24/08 – 11/24/12). During questioning, a congressman asked if the subject of conservative tax-free applications was ever discussed with the President. He replied that he did not recall a single instance of a discussion of this topic. When asked what he was doing at the White House. Mr. Shulman replied that one purpose was to go there with his children for an Easter egg roll.

Reports indicate that five people are under surveillance in Libya regarding the Benghazi embassy attack that killed four loyal U.S. Citizens. This tragedy occurred on September 11, 2012 and we are just now hearing about what could be an ersatz investigation. The strategy may be to make sure the debacle fades from memory to avoid any top government personnel having to accept accountability and consequences.

Recently we learned that the Justice Department has subpoenaed Associated Press (AP) phone records regarding a ‘leak’ investigation. Reports also confirm that a cable news reporter has been subjected to secret tracking accompanied by a search warrant to gain access to his personal E-Mail messages. The government’s claim relates to a ‘leak’ in 2009 and an affidavit submitted by the FBI in 2010.

Attorney General Eric Holder admitted on May 22 that drone strikes since 2009 have killed four U.S. citizens. Although we all knew about the execution of Anwar al-Aulaqi, the administration did not explain details about the killing of the other three citizens

Pundits, commentators and reporters have recently declared that the Obama government is ‘out of control.’ However, the probability exists that the government is precisely positioned for the two terms of this imperious Presidency. Consider that no one at the top of the organization pyramid expressed awareness of any of the events that are obvious transgressions. The President, the Attorney General, the former Secretary of State and both recent heads of the IRS all declared surprise upon learning about these monumental events.

It is possible that President Obama envisions the U.S. as a nation of permanent welfare recipients that receive a plethora of benefits including cell phones. Part of the President’s plan may be that government and union work rules should regulate commerce. The rich are celebrated for their wisdom but shook down for donations and votes. Students are elevated to pedestal status to enable them to receive education loans and when in default, allow taxpayers to pick up the tab.

Control of the press and suppression of critics are emblematic of tyranny. Accountability is nonexistent among current government officials, weakening the inherent mosaic of the U.S. culture of Constitutional government and personal responsibility. Promises made, promises broken, rule of law, just a token.
