Dam designer Dr. Jeffrey Fong will headline a July 9th panel discussion on the history of Smith Mountain Lake. Dr. Fong was only 25 years old in 1959 when he began designing both SML and Leesville Lake Dams. Also joining the panel will be several former Appalachian Power employees who worked on the project.

The event takes place from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9th, at Trinity Ecumenical Parish, 40 Lakemount Dr., Moneta. The program will last approximately one and a half hours with an opportunity for audience discussion and participation.

The July 9th event is the sixth presentation in the “SML History Eye Witness Series,” a collection of talks and panel discussions celebrating the 50th anniversary of the lake. The events are sponsored by SML’s 50th Anniversary Historical/Education Committee.

The public is invited to attend the event. Admission is free. Please RSVP to [email protected]; 540.721.1203.
