First Baptist Church Purchases WSLS Property for $1.2 Million

The WSLS 10’s studio and broadcast building was constructed in the early 1950s.

Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer has announced the sale of 401 3rd Street along with two parking lots on Church Avenue in Downtown Roanoke, Virginia.

First Baptist Church of Roanoke purchased the 20,000 square foot WSLS television station property for $1,200,000. Graham Media Group of Virginia sold the station to complete their pending relocation to 821 5th Street, NE. They will continue to occupy the premises for

WSLS 10 is a Station of many firsts:

  • First television station to broadcast to Central and SW Virginia
  • First station to broadcast in “full living color”
  • First station to telecast from a remote location
  • First station to use video tape
  • First station to originate a network program from the local station. (The NBC Today Show)
  • First station to use electronic news gathering equipment
  • First station to broadcast network programming in stereo
  • First station to broadcast live local news in HD in the Roanoke market
