Wilderness Adventure Brings Fresh Take to Music Festival this September

500 Acre Retreat Uses Adventure and “Adult Camp” Mentality for a One-of-a-Kind Experience

Wilderness Adventure a (WA), Roanoke’s local adventure camp and retreat center, is looking forward to the second year of WA Fest, running September 14-16 at the WA base camp in Craig County.

Opening night, Friday, will honor WA Fest’s home by featuring Bluegrass, Rock n Roll, and a first-rate Farm-to-Table dinner option.  Saturday will take a turn for the funky and fun, with bands like Psylo Joe and Empty Bottles.  Sunday will feature developing talents and tasty brunch options.  To tie off the weekend, WA staff will guide a short hike to a beautiful overlook for an epic group picture – a budding tradition for festival-goers, bands, and vendors

WA Fest celebrates the WA adventure camp program’s mission of self-reliance and community, by bringing together local musicians, high adventure activities, purpose-driven food and retail vendors, and a fun and welcoming event staff.

Proceeds and donations from the event will go into the Adventure Camp Fund, a campership program that offers partial and full tuition assistance to future adventure camp participants.  The cause has captivated more than just the WA Fest hosts: “There is a real sense of community where you feel like you’re a part of something that can make a difference for youth, and we’re thrilled that our bands radiate that feeling from the stage throughout the weekend,” Ben Crowley, WA Fest band coordinator, explains.

“From the scenic views, to the great bands and amazing staff, WA Fest provides an experience rarely found in the festival community anymore,” says Robert Brandon, Road Manager for Psylo Joe.  “[WA] holds a special place in my heart… and I truly can’t wait to come back home for round 2!”

Entry ranges from $10-40 per person with youth prices available, camping is $15-35 per tent with Community & Family options, and hostel-style bunks and private rooms are available in the rustic Main Lodge.  Alongside classic summer camp games and hijinks in the festival area, Night Zip Lining, Mountain Biking, Canoeing, and other outdoor activities are available throughout the week-end.
