WDBJ7’s Names New General Manager

Broadcast veteran Matt Pumo has been named as the new general manager of WDBJ7. He started in his new role Monday.

“It’s great to be here in Roanoke,” said Pumo. “WDBJ7 has a long history of serving the viewers of Virginia, and I’m looking forward to working with the very talented people here and helping to shape our future.”

Pumo has experience in many facets of broadcast television. His career started in the newsroom over 25 years ago. Later he segued to television sales and marketing. From 1993 to 2006 he led departments in various management positions.

The last 10 years Pumo has served as general manager in both the Mobile-Pensacola-Fort Walton Beach and the Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem markets.

Now at WDBJ, he is the station’s first general manager under new owner Gray Television, which purchased WDBJ from Schurz Communications earlier this year.
