Forsaken Friends, Emboldened Enemies

Even his most ardent supporters must realize that Mr. Obama is an abject failure in foreign affairs. The respect of our allies and the trepidation of our antagonists have dwindled. The Middle East is a tragic example where Russia has come to the rescue of Syria’s President Assad after Putin put forth the illusion that Russian air power and advanced missile systems would bring a halt to ISIS attacks. What is really happening is that there is a confusing array of Iranian troops, ISIS fighters, Syrian rebels, Syrian troops and Russian air power and threats on the ground.

What the President conveniently overlooks is that every president leaves residual challenges for his or her successor. Whether Obama likes it or not, the job he campaigned so assiduously for contained obligations from his predecessor. The continual whining and blame game politics the current President has gushed out over the past seven years should be embarrassing to him and all true citizens. His unrelenting search for excuses displays his lack of competence for the job of President of the United States. The position of President is to seek and implement solutions for winning rather than excuses for compromise and failure. Truman said it, “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.”

Mr. Obama said that Syria’s President Assad ‘had to go’ in August of 2012; Assad is still at the helm of Syria and may outlast Mr. Obama’s Presidency here. The President didn’t mind dabbling in mid-eastern affairs by sending former US Ambassador to Egypt Frank Wisner to Cairo in February 2011 with a message that Hosni Mubarak should not run for re-election in the fall of that year. That ejection didn’t turn out too well when the nation fell under the spell of The Muslim Brotherhood.

There is a pall of timidity and diffidence at top levels when dealing with other nations. We allow Iran to back us down on provisions of a nuclear ‘deal’, we watch with disengaged interest when Russia rolls over the Crimean Peninsula and starts killing people and breaking things in Ukraine, we transform the ‘red line’ in Syria to removal of chemical weapons by (our friends?) the Russians, and we remain calm and composed as China builds airfields on Coral Reefs in the South China Sea. We are no longer the shining city on the hill; we are the shining example of capitulation.

Former Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Tokon Mamytov now teaching at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University in Bishkek has said that what is happening in Afghanistan is pushing ‘our countries’ closer to Russia. And Mr. Obama gargles the illusion that Mr. Putin is making a big mistake in Syria. The President, on October 15th changed course and announced that we will keep 9,800 troops in Afghanistan through 2016 with a drawdown to about 5,500 in 2017 apparently heeding the words of US Army General John Campbell when he addressed Congress on Tuesday, October 6 stating that a contingent of just 1,000 military was inadequate.

ISIS, the Taliban, Boko Haram and Al Qaeda have positioned themselves to spread fear among all civilized people and nations that doubt their determination to turn the world, yes the entire world, into a caliphate. These groups decapitate innocent Christians, kidnap girls because they are being educated, marry and rape nine-year-old innocent children destroying their futures and the media fills pages and TV screens with criticism that falls on the defiant ears of wicked men. Have these terrorists misinterpreted the Quran? If so, where are the resistance fighters from those Islamic nations that should defend the righteousness of their religion, Sharia law and other tenets of their culture?

Leaders of free nations, the world’s religions and makers of armaments, ships and airplanes must be prepared to go to work and prepared to go to war. From the Holy Bible; Ecclesiastes 3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal & 3:8 A time for war, and a time for peace. Our Generals, Admirals and Infantrymen are the best in the world and detest war but when our leader sees this nation drawn toward armed, deadly conflict; will we forego liberty and submit to tyranny and terrorism? Let freedom ring!
