night The Knights rolled to the sweep of the Cougars.

It takes a minimum of 25 points to win a standard volleyball set.

Tuesday night in the Cave Spring gym, the Knights’ domination was no more evident than the fact their opponent could only muster 23 points in the entire 3-set River Ridge matchup.
Coming off a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Lord Botetourt last Thursday night, Cave Spring took no prisoners in rolling to the 25-8; 25-10; 25-5 sweep over the Pulaski County Cougars.
“We served well, we passed well and our young kids got to play a lot,” Cave Spring head coach Tamalyn Tanis said of her squads play against an outmatched Cougar team.
No better example of an outstanding performance by an underclassman than that of sophomore outside hitter Erin Harrison. Harrison notched 5 kills and 3 blocks to compliment a Cave Spring roster that includes 8 seniors.
“I’m only a sophomore, so I don’t play that much,” Harrison, the soph with the flashy hair style, said with a huge grin afterward. “It’s one of the best games I’ve ever had. You want to stay focused on playing up.”
The Cougars struggled all night with Cave Spring’s power game at the net, along with laser serves that continually split the Cougar defense.
Cave Spring lost the first point in the opening set before rolling out to  a 13-5 lead. The Knights led 24-8 when senior Hope Sitze served up the set-clincher when she dropped a dying-quail serve right into the middle of the stunned Cougar defense.
The Knights lost the first two points of the second set before scoring their first point, sending senior Shannon Holsinger to the service line. Holsinger promptly served 13 straight points to run the Knight lead to 14-2, setting the stage for a lineup dominated by reserves that finished the deal. Cave Spring ran away with the 20-point margin that secured the match clincher.
“I fixed an early error with my serve, and definitely finished with a good game for me,” Holsinger said. “I think the Lord Botetourt match woke us up. We realize we can’t start off slow.”
Senior Cave Spring standout Piper Roe finished with 15 kills, while setter Meagan Harrison provided 23 assists and fired 6 aces. Cave Spring improved to 3-0 on the season.
