Tuesday afternoon at Knights Field, the Cave Spring varsity baseball team hosted members of the Cave Spring National Little League is a pre-game tradition with position players.

Afterward, the varsity guys showed the rec players how it was done.

Riding the arm of starter Thomas Forest, the Knights blanked the visitors from Pulaski County 5-0 in a key River Ridge District win for Cave Spring.

Forest was in his element from the outset. The lefty scattered three hits over six innings of work, striking out nine Cougar batters and only walking one on his way to picking up the victory.

Trey Hodson came on in relief to start the seventh and secured the shutout for the Knights, giving up two hits.

It was mostly small-ball for the Cave Spring offense. Cole Flora’s double was the only extra base knock for the Knights, going along with seven singles and the help of four Pulaski County errors.

Nelson Stanley, Isaac Yeaman and Alex Emery each had two hits for Cave Spring as the Knights scored two runs in the third before adding plenty of insurance with a 3-run sixth.

Tanner Dotson, who went the distance on the mound for the Cougars, led the Pulaski offense with three of the five total Cougar hits.
