North Cross slugger Josh Greenway connects on a 2-run homer in the fifth inning Thursday, but it wasn’t enough as Fishburne used a late rally for the 7-3 win.

Fishburne Military broke a 3-3 tie with four sixth-inning runs, and the Caissons held on to defeat North Cross 7-3 in VIS baseball Thursday afternoon at Porterfield Field on the North Cross campus.

Fishburne loaded the bases with none out in the top of the sixth on a single, base on balls and perfectly placed bunt single. After an infield popup for the first out, Calen Owens laced a 2-RBI single to right, ending the day for North Cross starter Justin Jensen.
Tanner Smith took over on the mound for the Raiders and coaxed a fly ball to center for the second out. But, Fishburne’s Treavor Norman launched a double off the left field fence to complete the 4-run Caisson uprising.
Norman held the Raiders scoreless over the final two innings to pick up the win in the complete-game effort.
The two teams had traded runs in the opening inning.
Fishburne used three singles to open the scoring in the top of the first, and North Cross responded in the bottom half when Josh Greenway smacked a RBI doubled to left center.
The Caissons made it 2-1 in the third after an Owens single and Norman RBI double into the right-center field gap.
Fishburne made it 3-1 in a wild-and-wooly fourth that saw three singles, a popup lost in the wind, a runner picked off second, and sacrifice bunt all leading to a single Caisson run.
North Cross answered in their half of the fifth. Keith Oddo reached on an error to start the inning, and one out later Greenway sent a Norman fastball deep over the left field fence to tie the game at 3. The Raiders would get runners at second and third with two out, but Norman got out of the jam without further damage, leading to the Caisson surge in their next at-bat.
Greenway led the North Cross hitting, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Edwin Saunders had the only other Raider hit on the afternoon.
Owens went 3-for-4 for Fishburne with 3 RBIs, while Norman added 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Timothy Arndt collected two hits for the Caissons.
