Veteran coach Amanda Stump McCoy will join Roanoke Catholic School next season to lead the Celtics’ volleyball program.

From 2008-2013, McCoy served as the head coach at William Byrd High School where she led her team to three regional tournament appearances – twice as regional semifinalists – and coached nine All District players, four All Regional players and an All-State player.

Most recently as a second year coach at Liberty High School in Bedford she was able to help turn around the program. McCoy coached 10 players to All Seminole District Team Honors, six to All Conference 30 and four players to the All-Region III teams.

“We are thrilled to attract someone of Coach McCoy’s ability, experience – and most importantly, integrity and leadership – to Roanoke Catholic School,” said Celtics athletic director Matthew Peck. “We already have an outstanding volleyball program, and we look forward to its continued success under Coach McCoy.”

This season, the Celtics claimed a 22-6 record and was runner-up in the region at 7-1.

McCoy was a member of the 2000 William Byrd State Championship team and 2001 team, placing third in state as an outside hitter. She graduated Roanoke College in 2006 with degrees in Health and Human Performance and received her degree in Special Education from Old Dominion University in 2012. Throughout her coaching experience she has had six of her players move on to collegiate volleyball.

McCoy’s background also includes founding an independent USA Juniors club in 2005, directing camps for Roanoke City Parks and Recreation in volleyball, and serving as a head coach and executive board member with Next Revolution Volleyball Club from 2009-2014.

“I am very excited to become not only a coach with the Roanoke Catholic athletics family but also a staff member. I have heard great things about the girls in the program and hope to continue the strength that the program has had the last few years.”
