January’s Wolf Moon

Wolf Moon Over Hotel RoanokeJanuary’s “Full Wolf Moon” shines bright and full above Read Mountain as the Hotel Roanoke looks on. The “Wolf Moon” was said to appear when wolves traditionally howled with hunger outside of Native American villages. The association of wolves with the moon is prevalent in folklore from around the world and especially in Scandinavia and Germany. One Native American “proverb” reminds youngsters that, “although wolves have been howling at the moon for centuries, it is still there.” The amazing photo above is, as always, by Terry Aldhizer.
