Carilion Healthcare has announced the donation of a building they had previously leased to Child Health Investment Partnership (CHIP) for the last 12 years.

CHIP’s non-profit headquarters, located at 1201 Third Street in Roanoke is now owned by CHIP, and will provide stability to an organization that provides medically-focused home visiting services to over 1000 low-income children annually in the Greater Roanoke Valley.

“We are so pleased to donate this building to an organization that provides such extraordinary services to our community,” said Carilion Clinic President and CEO Nancy Howell Agee. “Their work is supportive of our mission, which is to improve the health of the communities we serve. This relationship will continue as we simultaneously, and in coordination, work to make a difference in the lives of those that we care for.”

Carilion and CHIP partner in numerous ways from access to dental services through Carilion Pediatric Dental Clinic, access to medical services through Carilion pediatricians and specialists, case management that includes transportation to appointments with Carilion pediatricians  through CHIP nurses, and providing reciprocal trainings for CPR, Safe Sleep and Shaken Baby Syndrome.  CHIP also provides a community rotation for Carilion Family Practice and Peds Residents.

This community partnership is yielding healthcare savings by avoiding costly ER visits for things like asthma and major dental work which are addressed at an early age in the homes of CHIP children.  “Our partnership with Carilion Clinic is invaluable to CHIP and the families we serve.  By working so closely together, we are improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare and lowering costs for thousands of children from low-income families in our community.” said CHIP’s CEO Robin Haldiman.
