Market Gallery Featured Artists for November are Rod Adams, Winn Ballenger and Virginia Klute. The public is invited to meet and chat with the artists at their Art by Night opening reception on Friday, November 7, 5:30 to 9 p.m. The featured artists will discuss their work between 6:15 and 7 p.m.

Rod Adams notes, “If it’s rusty, crusty and falling apart, chances are I’ll paint it.” Watercolor in the transparent form is his medium. He especially likes the watercolor medium for the glazing effects that he can achieve with it.

This summer Winn Ballenger devoted her painting time to producing smaller, very portable pieces. Some of her new works in oils are landscapes and others are still life paintings. She refers to these summer paintings as, “my pizza box paintings”. The pizza boxes served as wet painting carriers when she was traveling. She notes that a few pizzas were devoured in the course of this project!

Virginia Klute is a life-long artist, working in watercolor. She paints botanical subjects from life. Klute trained at the NY Botanical Garden and is a certified “Botanical Artist”. Her certification project featured wild flowers in watercolor. She will be exhibiting a variety of subjects including a Morning Glory Vine, Amanita Mushroom, Phalaenopsis Orchid, Magnolia flower with leaves, and a Pink Lady Slipper Orchid.

The Market Gallery, a regional artists’ cooperative, is open 10 am to 5:30 pm Tuesday – Saturday. And is located at 23 Salem Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24011, the corner of Wall St and Salem Ave in Roanoke’s historic downtown market.
