The countdown continues.

We’re one week removed from the official ” Big-11 ” season opener when North Cross visits Nansemond-Suffolk next Friday night in a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The following week a nine-game ” Big-11″ slate waits for the avid fans, with six of those games playing out in the Roanoke Valley.

High school golf in the ” Big-11 ” moves to Blue Hills Golf Club this afternoon (Thurs. August 14th) for the final round of the two-day Bob McLelland Metro. Hidden Valley’s Kristin Hearp looks to defend her 2013 title.

Not to be forgotten, we’re ready for the start of the high school volleyball season. The Roanoke Valley continues to be the hot bed for some of the best volleyball play in the state. Hidden Valley will be looking to defend its 2013 state championship with plenty of pressure expected from Cave Spring. News out of the Cave Spring camp includes a scholarship offer from Louisville to talented Knight junior Piper Roe.

The Salem Red Sox make their final push for a spot in the Carolina League playoffs when the Myrtle Beach Pelicans visit Lewis Gale Field this Friday through Sunday in a 3-game set. Game times are 7:05 Friday, 6:05 Saturday and a 4:05 matinee on Sunday afternoon. The Salem Sox final home stand of the regular season takes place the following weekend when Wilmington comes to town for a 4-game set from Friday, August 22nd through Monday, the 25th. Salem had suffered through four straight days of rainouts heading to a Wednesday and Thursday pair of doubleheaders at Potomac.

This weekend in Salem, it’s fireworks on Friday night followed by a special appearance by the Mayberry Deputy on Saturday night. Shazamm.

It’s never too early to think basketball and the Roanoke Valley Sports Club gets college hoops in gear with the appearance of new Virginia Tech head basketball coach Buzz Williams on Monday, August 25th at Roanoke Country Club. The evening begins with a 5:45 social followed by the 6:15 dinner meeting. Bring your questions regarding the upcoming Hokie season. Guests and prospective new members are cordially invited. Now, we move to this edition’s late-night product review. Without further ado, we bring you TempTooth.

I’m not sure if we have a lot of rough guys (or gals) reading this column, but if that’s the case, the TempTooth is right up your alley.

A reasonably priced $30 kit, the TempTooth enables the user to easily construct a temporary tooth replacement for anyone who has had one knocked out. Hardening beads are manipulated to form a tooth that snaps right in place, and out of place, at the user’s discretion. Steeping in tea makes the TempTooth match your regular teeth coloration. I’ve been keeping my eyes open for a tooth hanging in a cup of tea at local restaurants, but no luck so far.

Enough beads in one kit to make ten teeth. But, wait! Order now and get an extra kit free: that’s twenty fake teeth. Allows the purchaser to get in twice as many fights at no extra cost.

The testimonials for TempTooth and the high cost of regular tooth replacement allows us to give TempTooth a positive rating. Why look like Ernest T. Bass when you can look like George Clooney? All with affordability.

Until next time, drill your column filling comments to [email protected]

Warning! Remove your TempTooth when sleeping. (Or sneezing.)
