Don’t jump to conclusions.

Step back when making decisions.
Don’t throw the GoPilot out with the bath water.
It’s been a hilarious whirlwind week after our now famous late-night product review of the GoPilot “must-have” automobile accessory. For those who missed it, the GoPilot is a device that allows you to……well, in order to maintain the propriety of this column…….wee-wee while driving. We’ll make a sweep through the mailbag later in the column for reader’s comments. First, let’s take a peek at the local sports scene.
High school baseball and softball postseason play began this week with a hopeful run to the state finals in many team’s sight. Here’s where our ” Big-11 ” squads stand heading into next week’s regional tournament action.
BASEBALL:
Conference 24- Salem takes on Pulaski County at Kiwanis Field Friday afternoon in the conference final. Both teams are assured of advancing to regional play.
Conference 31- Thursday’s rain forced the William Byrd-Staunton River and Northside-Lord Botetourt matchups to be moved to Friday. The formula is simple. The two winners advance to the conference final and are assured of advancing. The two losers will see their season come to an end.
Conference 32- Blacksburg visits Hidden Valley in today’s conference final. Both teams move on next week in regional action.
Conference 38- Glenvar tangles with James River Friday evening at Kiwanis for the 38 championship. Both are assured to advance to regional action next week.
SOFTBALL:
Conference 31- It will be a busy evening today at the Botetourt Sports Complex. Northside takes on Rockbridge County  in the completion of yesterday’s game suspended with the Vikings up 5-3 in the fifth inning. On an adjacent diamond, Lord Botetourt picks up against  Alleghany, with the Cavs leading 3-0 in the fifth. The two winners play in the conference final 30 minutes after the openers are completed, with both teams assured of advancing to regional play next week. The two losers in the 3-inning completions are finished for the year.
Conference 32- Patrick County invades Knights Fields Friday to take on Cave Spring in the final. Both teams move on in regional action next week.
Conference 38- Glenvar goes against James River in a semifinal makeup after Thursday night’s washout. The winner advances to Saturday’s 38 final against Floyd County. The Glenvar-JR loser finds its season over.
The Salem Red Sox return home next Tuesday, June 3rd, for an abbreviated 3-game home stand against the Frederick Keys. First pitch at 7:05.
We’re only one month removed from the week-long Greenbrier Classic PGA Tour event in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Ticket badges, starting at $ 60 for 7 days of golf and one concert, are still available at First Tee Roanoke Valley. This year’s concerts include Maroon 5 on Friday, July 4th and Jimmy Buffett on Saturday, July 5th.
Now, as promised, we visit the mailbag for some observations on last week’s GoPilot mania.
Elizabeth, of Roanoke, pointed out the GoPilot’s capacity is 3 quarts, making it somewhat nasty.
Good point, Elizabeth. Can you imagine lugging this thing around after it’s been passed around a car packed with passengers?
Dear Wild Bill: The GoPilot does makes sense for saving time, but what do you think about the smell?  (Harold/ Boones Mill )
Well, Harold, I assume there’s some assortment of air fresheners available. Presumably, named….Spring Rain, Gentle Mist or Flash Flood.
Dear Product Guru: I saw this week that Google is introducing a self-driving car with no steering wheel or brake pedals. Doesn’t the GoPiiot seem like the obvious add-on option? ( Cecil/ Vinton )
Seems logical to me, Cecil. You don’t need hands to steer, so use them to………?
The Google car may not have brake pedals, but let’s face it, we need to STOP ! Until nest week, send your comments to [email protected]
I sense a monsoon coming on.
