The world famous Harlem Globetrotters are honoring Marvey O’tey of William Byrd High School with a “Trotter Tribute” in recognition of his spectacular behind-the-back shot in a recent home game.

O’tey ran down an errant pass in the corner and flung it behind his back – Globetrotters-style – before he went out of bounds, and the ball amazingly found the net.

“We come to Roanoke in February, and we might want to recruit Marvey for our Trick Shot Challenge that will be part of every Globetrotters game,” said Globetrotters Showman Special K Daley. “Marvey’s shot was crazy enough, but he even added some more Globetrotter-like flair when he ran through the gym doors after flinging the ball behind his back.”

The Harlem Globetrotters will bring their 2014 “Fans Rule World Tour to the Roanoke Civic Center Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at 7:00 p.m.  The Trick Shot Challenge is one of five game-changing plays on which fans can vote to see in Globetrotters games at: harlemglobetrotters.com/rule.

The “Trotter Tribute” honors athletes from all sports throughout the world whose play calls to mind the dazzling showmanship of the world’s most famous basketball team. The honor is designed to recognize amazing and entertaining moments during the course of competition.
