The city of Roanoke’s director of finance, Ann H. Shawver, has announced her resignation effective May 15, 2014. Shawver delivered her letter of resignation to Council Member Anita Price, chair of City Council’s Personnel Committee.

Shawver has worked in the city’s Department of Finance since 1994. “I have enjoyed my years of service with the city of Roanoke and am proud of the city’s accomplishments during my time as director of finance. As much as I will miss working with the city team, after 20 years of service, I am excited about pursuing new opportunities,” said Shawver.

During Shawver’s five-year tenure as director of finance, she oversaw the implementation of updated financial policies and the stabilization of the city’s credit ratings to achieve and maintain a AA rating.  Roanoke’s solid bond rating demonstrates strong financial management and reduces the city’s costs when borrowing for capital projects.

“Ann Shawver has been a terrific finance director.  When it comes to numbers, she is the best!  City Council thanks her for her dedicated service to the city of Roanoke and wishes her great success in the future,” said Mayor David Bowers.

With this advance notice, City Council can proceed with development of a recruitment strategy for this important position.
