Valley Gastroenterology of Southwest Virginia will be joining Carilion Clinic Gastroenterology.  Robert D. Moylan, M.D., Ph.D., M. Jonathan Bern, M.D., Vikas Chitnavis, M.D., and Kevin B. Mercure, M.D  are moving from their current location on Braeburn Drive in Salem to Carilion’s Riverside Center on South Jefferson Street in Roanoke.

The doctors will serve dual roles as specialists treating a variety of digestive disorders and as faculty members of a new gastroenterology fellowship program.

“Carilion’s expanding role as a medical center and teaching facility makes this an excellent choice for us,” says Dr. Moylan, who will also serve as the fellowship program’s associate director.

“There’s a large demand for gastroenterology services in the Roanoke Valley,” says Paul Yeaton, M.D., chief of the practice and director of the fellowship program.  According to Dr. Yeaton, the addition of new doctors almost doubles the size of Carilion’s Roanoke gastroenterology practice and will help meet that need.

The practice serves patients seeking help for heartburn, acid reflux, ulcers, and other common digestive problems, along with specialized treatment for pancreatic cancer and inflammatory bowel disorders such as Crohn’s disease. There is also a strong demand for colonoscopies for early detection and prevention of colon cancer.

In addition to the four new physicians and Dr. Yeaton, Carilion Clinic Gastroenterology in Roanoke includes Alan Brijbassie, M.D., Sujala Chirla, M.D., Marrieth Rubio, M.D., Dario Sorrentino, M.D., and Christine K. Davidson serves as nurse practitioner. The practice is located at 3 Riverside Circle.

Carilion Clinic Gastroenterology in the New River Valley includes Harrish Grover, M.D., Anand T. Kishore, M.D., Michael A. Riel, D.O. and Mark A. Ringold, M.D., along with physician assistants Anne Howland and Kristin S. Newman.

Carilion also has the region’s only Pediatric Gastroenterology practice, with Richard A. Cordle, M.D., Monica Paz Garin-Laflam, M.D., Michael H. Hart, M.D., and Juan Olazagasti, M.D.
