Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated (CCBCC) held a ribbon-cutting for the 36,000 square foot expansion of their existing facility in Roanoke earlier this week that is designed to improve their supply chain operation in the region.

“Our relationship with the Roanoke Valley has been a great long term success, both from a business and community perspective,” said Dave Hopkins, senior vice president of operations at CCBCC.  “The project at the Roanoke Sales & Distribution Center is an excellent example of the investments we make for productivity improvements, which are vital to maintain the leadership role in our industry.”

The expanded facility at Roanoke Sales & Distribution Center, located at 4022 Integrity Drive, was originally established in 2009.  The additional space allowed 125 employees from the downtown Roanoke plant to transfer over to the remodeled facility, making room for further improvement of the manufacturing space.

“We are thrilled that Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated continues to grow and expand in Roanoke County,” said Jill Loope, acting director, Roanoke Economic Development.  “Coca-Cola’s ongoing investment throughout the region is a testimony to the quality of Roanoke’s workforce, outstanding infrastructure and low cost of doing business.  Coca-Cola is a fantastic corporate partner and we appreciate their numerous contributions to the Roanoke economy.”

The expansion is pivotal to improving the entire supply chain operation in Roanoke.  It gives CCBCC a much more efficient facility from which to build, stage and ship customer orders.  It also results in generating much needed space in the production center, which offers far greater flexibility for manufacturing operations.

“From our initial occupancy four years ago, through this major expansion project, our work with the Roanoke Valley Gateway LLC ownership group, led by Doug Wright and Vaughn Wilburn, has proven to be one of the best partnerships we have experienced at Coke Consolidated, added Bob Miller, facility engineering manager at CCBCC.

“I’d like to compliment all of the Roanoke County government departments that were involved in the project, said Glenn Hager, regional logistics manager at CCBCC.  The efforts of the engineers, planners, and administrators, plus the staff of the Roanoke Economic Development team were vital to the overall success of this project.”
