Salem jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and never looked back, as the Spartan boys soccer squad defeated Cave Spring 5-0 Tuesday evening on the turf at Dwight Bogle Stadium in the River Ridge opener for both teams.

Salem opened the scoring at the 17-minute mark of the first half, then added a second goal three minutes before halftime for the two goal advantage at the break. The Spartans added three more in the final 40 minutes to put the contest away.

Seniors Jack Maxey and Justin Applegate joined junior Troy Hamner and sophomores Grant Foley and Hayden Helm as each scored for the Spartans.

Andrew Franklin picked up the shutout in goal for Salem (4-2-1; 1-0 River Ridge), while Cave Spring freshman keeper Adam Sledd made two saves in the loss for the Knights (4-2; 0-1)
