Local Writer’s Book Wins 2013 Book Award by Christianity Today

theology_jonathan_edwardsDr. Gerald McDermott’s book, “The Theology of Jonathan Edwards,” has been named the top theology/ethics book in Christianity Today’s 2013 Book Awards. McDermott, Jordan-Trexler Professor of Religion, co-authored the book with Michael J. McClymond. The book was published by Oxford University Press.

Christianity Today judges began with 455 books submitted by 68 publishers. They cut the list to 10 award winners and nine notables.

Christianity Today reviewers said, “This truly impressive volume combines two virtues that rarely coexist. It is accessibly deep. Many books cover their subject matter in an accessible manner, and many others plumb the depths of their subject matter. [This] successfully does both. Organized clearly and written well, I can imagine no better introduction and in-depth analysis of this incredibly important figure.”

McDermott is the author of 13 books, including, The Oxford Handbook of Evangelical Theology (October, 2010), Understanding Jonathan Edwards (Oxford University Press, 2009), Jonathan Edwards Confronts the Gods (Oxford University Press), The Great Theologians: A Brief Guide (Intervarsity, February 2010), and World Religions: An Indispensable Introduction (Thomas Nelson, 2011). His Trinitarian Theology of Religions will appear from Oxford University Press in 2014.

McDermott also joined with Salem oncologist Dr. William Fintel to write three books on cancer and pastoral theology: Living with Cancer (Word Books, 1992), Dear God, It’s Cancer (Word, 1997), and Cancer: A Medical and Spiritual Guide For Patients and Their Families (Baker Books, 2004).

The book is available at area book stores and all online book sellers.
