I was traveling through your beautiful state on my way back to my house in Arizona when I read your article on the uranium debate. I was taken aback by Dr. Bodnar’s quote: “Show me the scientific evidence that supports ( the ban), we need to look at the facts and get away from being emotional.”
I invite you to read the book “Yellow Dirt” by Judy Pasternak. It is filled with scientific facts about the dangers of uranium mining and how industry practices, greed and government disregard for the safety of miners and their families resulted in tragedy for many in the states of Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada.
The southwest has had the sad experience of uranium mining and its lethal effects. Your community is wise to be cautious. Once the radioactive genie is out of the bottle it’s difficult to put it back.
