International Guitar Champion In Town

Mark Kroos

Acoustic guitarist Mark Kroos will be holding a concert at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Daleville on Sunday, October 9th at 7:00 PM.

Mark recently took first place in Guitar Player Magazine’s 2011 International Guitar Superstar Competition in Nashville.  Mark and five other competitors each performed one original composition in front of renown guitar judges Muriel Anderson, Reeves Grabrels, Carl Verheyen and host Larry Carlton.  Mark took the cake with his piece titled “Flight Attempt.”  Fredrik Halland from Norway took second place and Arek Religa from Chicago came in third.

Mark plays two guitar necks at the same time with a tapping technique that involves both hands fretting the strings.  It creates a very explosive and energetic genre that is as entertaining to watch as it is to listen to.  He draws influence from other guitarists in his style such as Michael Hedges and Tommy Emmanuel but also from a number of punk rock/indie bands such as The Lawrence Arms, Modest Mouse and The Weakerthans.

Call 992-3030 for more information. Admission is Free, but donations will be accepted. Videos of Mark performing on the double neck guitar can be found at www.markkroos.com
