Fleming Falls in Close Game

William Fleming quarterback Dom Frierson tries to avoid the tackle of Magna Vista's Zaukeus Witcher.

William Fleming put up a valiant effort, but the Colonels fell just short in the 14-9 loss to undefeated Magna Vista last Friday night at Fleming.

Magna Vista jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Colonel defense shut down the Warriors the rest of the way. Fleming broke into the scoring column late in the first half on a Daveon Fitzgerald 37-yard field goal.

DeShawn Hodnett got the Colonels to within striking distance in the third quarter by picking off a Magna Vista pass and taking it 62 yards to the house to cut the Warrior lead to 14-9 after the missed PAT. Fleming had several opportunities late but could not convert for the go-ahead score.

The Colonels were led in rushing by Jonathan Hagins’ 33 yards, with Miles Henderson tacking on 26.  Fleming was hampered by picking up only 4 first downs in the game and not completing a single pass.

The Colonels return to action Friday night wih a trip to E.C. Glass.
