Roanokers Line Up for VIN Etching

The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Roanoke City Police Department and the Virginia State Police HEAT program are sponsoring a free VIN etching for automobiles and motorcycles this weekend.   You can bring your vehicle to the Valley View Mall Target store on Saturday, July 16th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The address is 4802 Valley View Boulevard.

VIN etching deters auto theft.  VIH stands for vehicle identification number and every vehicle is assigned a number by the federal government.  The HEAT (Help Eliminate Auto Theft) program etches the VIN into all the windows of the vehicle.  If the vehicle is ever stolen, all the windows have to be replaced at great expense, thereby discouraging vehicle theft.

HEAT provides free VIN etching for up to 16 parts of a motorcycle.  No damage is done to the motorcycle through the process.  VIN etched parts help police detect and identify stolen motorcycles.

Protect your vehicle and you might qualify for a discount on your insurance as well.  The VIN etching is fast and free for all cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles on Saturday.
