Title Town Crowns Another Champ

The University of California -San Diego Tritons celebrate their Division II NCAA National Softball Championship.

Salem’s Moyer Sports Complex was the site for the NCAA Division II Softball Championships, held over the Memorial Day weekend. The University of California-San Diego Tritons, ranked 16th in the country, upset #1 Alabama-Huntsville 10-3 on Monday to capture the tourney with a 4-0 record. “Winning a national championship is awesome,” said Tritons head coach Patti Gerckens.  A week earlier the Division III championship was also held in Salem, with Linfield (OR) beating Christopher Newport University (from Newport News) in the final.
