Salem’s Moyer Sports Complex was the site for the NCAA Division II Softball Championships, held over the Memorial Day weekend. The University of California-San Diego Tritons, ranked 16th in the country, upset #1 Alabama-Huntsville 10-3 on Monday to capture the tourney with a 4-0 record. “Winning a national championship is awesome,” said Tritons head coach Patti Gerckens. A week earlier the Division III championship was also held in Salem, with Linfield (OR) beating Christopher Newport University (from Newport News) in the final.
