Hidden Valley went on a 9-0 run in the second quarter to turn a four point lead into a 66-46 River Ridge District girls basketball win over host Christiansburg last Friday night.

The Blue Demons (4-13, 1-5 RRD) took a 6-2 lead behind a pair of baskets from Shannon Stuart and Meghan McFee. The Titans (11-5, 5-1 River Ridge District after Friday’s game), sparked by six points from Tyler Evans, pulled out to a 9-6 advantage with 3:11 left in the opening quarter. Three straight points by Tara McCoy knotted the score at 9-9 before Evans buried a three-pointer to give Hidden Valley a 12-11 lead after the first quarter.

The Titans extended their lead to 20-13 before the Blue Demons rallied back to pull to within four, 22-18, with 4:20 on the clock. That would be as close as Christiansburg would get the rest of the night, as Hidden Valley closed out the quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 31-18 advantage at the half.

A three-pointer by Kelly King at the 4:43 mark of the third quarter gave the Titans a 40-20 lead. By the time the quarter ended, Hidden Valley had extended its lead to 51-28. The fourth quarter saw both teams demonstrate their skills from the foul line. Hidden Valley scored nine of its 15 points from the charity stripe, while Christiansburg scored seven of their 18 points at the line.

Tyler Evans led Hidden Valley with a game-high 27 points. Kelly King had 12 points and Elizabeth Burke finished with 10 points. Tara McCoy paced Christiansburg with 12 points.
