North Cross School Appoints New Headmaster

Dr. Christian Proctor

North Cross School has announced that the school has hired Dr. Christian (Chris) Proctor for the position of headmaster beginning July 1, 2011.

Proctor has over 23 years of experience in education and currently serves as the Interim Headmaster at Wesley Academy in Houston, Texas. Prior to that post he was Headmaster at Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, South Carolina, St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Metairie, Louisiana and Grace Episcopal School in Monroe, Louisiana. Proctor earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from Colgate University, a Master’s Degree in Geology from Duke University, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Proctor is a native of Chapel Hill, NC. He and his wife Ellie have two children, Katherine, a rising college freshman and Andrew, a rising high school sophomore.

“We are looking forward to Dr. Proctor’s vision and leadership at North Cross School,” said Elwyn G. Murray, Chairman of the Board. “An efficient and thorough national executive search provided us with a very strong pool of candidates. Dr. Proctor impressed us with his presence, intelligence, and turnaround experience. We unanimously agreed that he was the one.”

Proctor will replace Timothy Seeley, an experienced educational leader who first came to NCS in 2001. He was appointed Headmaster in 2008 and has served in several other roles in the school during his tenure including Upper School Director and Assistant Headmaster, as well as Middle School Football Coach.

“North Cross School has been fortunate to have in Headmaster Tim Seeley – a very passionate and compassionate educator,” said Murray. “He has been a warm and approachable leader, [and] will be remembered for his insatiable intellectual curiosity, optimism and undying belief in the possibility of the human spirit. During his tenure, North Cross experienced important growth in many areas such as: academic improvements, strong college admissions, global exchange initiatives, creation of our successful JK3 program, record increases in enrollment, athletic championships and technological advancements like our Netbook program in the Upper School. Tim has our gratitude and admiration as he goes forward.”

North Cross School is an independent, co-educational, college-preparatory day school that serves children in Junior Kindergarten through twelfth grade. North Cross currently has 551 enrolled students as well as 104 faculty and staff.
