The 45th Annual Cosmopolitan Invitational Track and Field Meet was held at Salem High School last weekend. The track meet, which is officially sanctioned by the Virginia High School League, has become the largest scholastic track meet in Southwest Virginia with boys and girls teams participating from Middle, Junior and Senior High Schools throughout our area. Cosmo 2010 included athletes from 32 area schools this year with a total participation of approximately 1100 students.
The Cosmopolitan Club of Roanoke awarded $2000.00 scholarships to outstanding senior boy and girl participants in this year’s meet. Since its first scholarship was awarded in 2000, the club has awarded $29,500.00 to athletes participating in the event.
I remember watching this track meet in the bleachers and this year I finally am able to run in this. Watch out Salem, cause here we come in 2011!!!
