Book No Further in Roanoke, the beloved independent bookstore, is celebrating Independence Book Day. Roanoke Author Mike Allen is the featured author for the day.

The day is a way to bring together book lovers, authors and the community to celebrate indy books and for all to shop, connect, read and discover new books.

Book No Further is dedicated to sharing the story of the region and the love of books of all kinds. Offering new and like-new books, bestsellers, classics, and a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books, it is a place to gather, read, and celebrate the written word. Roanoke author Mike Allen announces the availability of his latest story, The Black Fire Concerto, which pits flawed heroes against hordes of undead in a post-apocalyptic landscape where music holds magical power.

ABOUT: Book No Further is an independent bookstore on the Roanoke City Market offering new and gently used bestsellers, fiction and nonfiction, classics, and specially curated topic sections, such as horror, translated literature, and funky history. BNF features books about the Roanoke and New River Valleys and local authors, along with a special selection of Appalachian fiction and nonfiction.

Mike Allen is an author, editor, and publisher of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. MikeAllen has written, edited, or co-edited thirty-nine books, among them his latest book of horror stories, Slow Burn. His first two horror story collections, Unseaming, and Aftermath of an Industrial Accident, were finalists for the Shirley Jackson Award for Best Story Collection, and his dark fable “The Button Bin” was a nominee for the Nebula Award for Best Short Story. As an editor and publisher, he has twice been a finalist for the World Fantasy Award. He’s also a former arts columnist and editorial page editor for The Roanoke Times and a graduate of Virginia Tech and Hollins University. Unseaming and Aftermath of an Industrial Accident, his first two volumes of horror tales, were both finalists for the Shirley Jackson Award for Best Story Collection, and his dark fable “The Button Bin” was a nominee for the Nebula Award for Best Short Story. Another collection, The Spider Tapestries, contains experiments in weird science fiction and fantasy.
