Botetourt Native Promoted to Captain

Botetourt native, First Lieutenant Glenn Barry Hammond, II, USAF, was recently promoted to the grade of Captain at Edwards Air Force Base, California.  His father, Colonel Glenn B. Hammond, Sr., USAF (Retired) served as promotion officer.  Colonel Hammond also had the honor of awarding his son the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service in multiple duties culminating as Lead B-1 and B-52 electro-optical and infared engineer, 412th Test Wing, Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards AFB, California.

Captain Hammond, a 2002 Honor Graduate of Lord Botetourt High School graduated with distinction from Virginia Military Institute in 2006, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  Colonel Hammond, a Troutville resident, is a 1969 VMI graduate who served in Special Operations during the Vietnam War.  He recently retired as a U.S. Administrative Law Judge.

Captain Hammond was also honored as Company Grade Officer of the Quarter for the 412th Test Wing at Edwards AFB.  His accomplishments resulted in his selection to earn his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, beginning in early September.
