After significant snowfall that began early Friday morning and continued through Saturday, Area residents spent Sunday digging out from accumulations that ranged from 13-15 inches throughout the valley and along the Blue Ridge Parkway toward Bent Mountain.
Most folks seemed content to stay inside after warnings from officials that the cold temperatures and potential for additional accumulation could cause dangerous conditions, hazardous driving and the concern for possible power outages.
By Sunday morning the storm had exited the area, leaving only sunny skies and the extensive cleanup process that saw everything from snow plows, snow blowers to old-fashioned, albeit taxing, snow shovels.
Roanoke dodged a bullet as accumulations up the Shenandoah Valley exceeded two feet. Winchester registered 33 inches by midday Sunday.
