“The Wild Way” Receives $10,000 Grant from Norfolk Southern

The Wild Way has been awarded $10,000 in grant funding by Norfolk Southern Corporation to support its mission in the Roanoke Valley and beyond. The funds will be used to assist the enrollment of low-income and in-need girls in The Wild Way’s confidence-building, outdoor programming.

“As a small nonprofit, contributions like these make a huge difference,” said The Wild Way Executive Director Alexandra Siple. “With Norfolk Southern funding, we will be able to help at least 100 girls get outside and engaged in healthy activities like hiking, camping, and paddling. The impact of these experiences can last a lifetime.”

The grant is part of two community programs launched by Norfolk Southern in 2023: the Safety-First Grant Program, which seeks to advance safety organizations and initiatives, and the Thriving Communities Grant Program, which aims to promote economic opportunity, support vibrant community life, and provide equal access to basic necessities. Award recipients are selected annually from across the railroad’s 22-state network.
