The City’s Comprehensive Plan, “City Plan 2040” Draft for Read For Review and Approval

Roanoke City’s Comprehensive Plan, known as “Plan 2040” is under consideration at public hearings before the Planning Commission and City Council.  (Citizens may Click here to view the City Plan 2040 draft). According to the city, the plan is “designed to provide a community-driven vision that identifies short- and long-term strategies expressed through a focus on city design and the themes of Interwoven Equity, Healthy Community, Harmony with Nature, Livable Built Environment, Responsible Regionalism, and Resilient Economy.”
The comprehensive plan consists of priorities, policies, and actions and includes the place-based plans and functional plans previously adopted as elements of Vision 2001-2020.

City Plan 2040 was developed over a two-year time frame to allow for significant opportunities for public engagement. The Planning Commission public hearing is scheduled at 1:30 p.m., on Monday, December 14, 2020.  This public hearing will be conducted by electronic communication means due to COVID-19.

All persons wishing to address the Planning Commission must sign-up with the Secretary to the Planning Commission by emailing [email protected] or calling (540)853-1330 by noon, Friday, December 11, 2020.
Persons who register to speak will be provided with information to present their testimony via electronic communication means.  Written comments of interested persons will be received by the Secretary to the Planning Commission at [email protected] on or prior to 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2020.

The public hearing before City Council is scheduled for Monday, December 21, 2020, at 7:00 p.m.
