Roanoke Parks and Recreation to Host ‘Fireworks on the Fourth’

On Thursday, July 4, Roanoke Parks and Recreation will host the annual “Fireworks on the Fourth” celebration at River’s Edge South. Sponsored by WFXR, this free event begins at 7 p.m., and the fireworks show begins at 9:15 p.m. “Fireworks on the Fourth” is a family-friendly event featuring food trucks, bouncy castles, face painting, and live patriotic music performed by Winds of the Blue Ridge.

Due to limited parking space and street closures, spectators are encouraged to use the parking lots at Wasena Park and walk or bike the short distance to River’s Edge Sports Complex along the Roanoke River Greenway. They may also take advantage of the Valley Metro courtesy shuttle from Patrick Henry High School. Shuttles from the school to River’s Edge South will begin running at 6:45 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. Shuttles returning to the school will depart River’s Edge South immediately after the fireworks, with the final shuttle departing at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Should the event be canceled due to rain, the fireworks will be rescheduled for July 5 at the same time. However, there will not be food, music, or activities on the make-up date. For details about activities, parking, and road closures, visit PLAYRoanoke.com/fireworks.
