Rock Musician Crowned Miss Roanoke Valley

Caroline Weinroth, a graduate student studying poetry at George Mason University, was crowned Miss Roanoke Valley 2019. The Miss Roanoke Valley Scholarship Pageant was held Saturday, January 12, at the Dumas Center.
A musician in the rock band Cinema Hearts, Weinroth’s talent was playing electric guitar and singing an original arrangement of “Come Together” by The Beatles. Her community service platform is called “Music Empowerment,” which is an initiative to create civic change through music education and performance. Weinroth has volunteered with Girls Rock Roanoke.
In addition, Haley Day, a freshman at William Byrd High School, won the title of Miss Roanoke Valley’s Outstanding Teen 2019. A dancer for 13 years, Day’s talent was a lyrical routine to “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” by Whitney Houston. Her platform is “Today’s Readers, Tomorrow’s Leaders,” which encourages children to love reading.
Weinroth earned $2200 in scholarships towards her continued education at George Mason University. Day won a $500 college scholarship and a full-ride to Hollins University. They will each proceed to the Miss Virginia and Miss Virginia’s Outstanding Teen competitions, respectively, in June.
