Rebounding from a singles loss in the Class 3 state final on Thursday by Reagan Delp, Delp and her doubles partner, Caitlin Carter, captured the state doubles title on Friday, then helped lead the Knights to the Class 3 team title on Saturday at the Elizabeth Campus courts at Roanoke College.
For Delp, it capped off four straight doubles championships in her four years at Cave Spring, winning the first two with her older sister Fallon, followed by two partnered with Carter.
Friday’s doubles win over York’s Natasha Novak and Cassie Watts 7-6 (8-6); 7-5, followed a semifinal victory earlier in the day over the Western Albemarle duo of Hannah Kearns and Corinne Jennings 6-3, 6-3. Novak had defeated Delp in Thursday’s singles title match.
Saturday, the Knights won their third state team championship in four years, dispatching James Monroe 5-1. Delp, Carter, Grace Holderman, Josie Beheler and Payton Harman picked up 5 of the possible 6 wins in singles play, avoiding the need for doubles competition with the match securred.
