Turkey Art Needed for Drumstick DASH at Sidewalk Art Show

The Rescue Mission is ready to meet the next young artist who will design its 2018 Drumstick Dash t-shirt. Children up to age 15 are invited to join in the fun and draw a turkey at the Taubman Museum’s Sidewalk Art Show on June 2nd and 3rd.

Each year, the Mission selects an artist’s drawing to be featured on the shirt given to nearly 13,000 walkers and runners participating in the Thanksgiving Day 5k in Downtown Roanoke.

“We are eagerly anticipating what the kids come up with this year,” says Rescue Mission Chief Development Officer Tracy Altizer. “They always have so much fun with the drawings, and it’s a challenge for our staff to narrow them down to the top 10!”

Throughout the month of August, all contest entries will be displayed at 2nd Helpings Gallery. The public will be invited to vote for their favorite from among the 10 finalists during online voting the week of August 6th.  The winning design will be announced at a Gallery Reception on Saturday, August 11th.

The drawing contest will be held inside the Taubman Atrium during the Sidewalk Art Show on Saturday, June 2nd from 10am-5pm and Sunday, June 3rd from 12-5pm. For more information about the event, visit www.taubmanmuseum.org.
