11th Annual Drumstick DASH to be Held Thanksgiving Morning, November 24

d-dash-2015-800x534On Thanksgiving morning, thousands of runners, walkers, babies in strollers, and four-legged friends will gather in Downtown Roanoke to take part in the 11th Annual Union Drumstick DASH. The money raised goes towards providing food for homeless families at the Rescue Mission.

Last year, the Drumstick DASH had over 13,200 participants. “We are in a new decade of moving our feet so others can eat,” says Uneita Mathews, Drumstick DASH Race Director. “We are hoping families and individuals will come from all over to help make this the biggest and best DASH yet.

Some facts about the DASH:

• The Drumstick DASH is the largest, family friendly 5K in the region.
• There are awards for the largest groups in the categories of Church, Family, Business, and School as a part of the Union Team Challenge.
• The Drumstick DASH raised over $251,000 in 2015, a fundraising record for the race.
• Over 400 volunteers will help with race registration, crowd control, and serve as race marshals.

“In the DASH’s first year, over 1,600 runners and walkers participated and we raised $72,832,” Mathews says. “Now, 10 years later, the DASH has welcomed over 13,000 participants a year and raised over $1.9M for the Rescue Mission.”

Registration for the Drumstick Dash will remain open through the morning of the event. Race packet and t-shirt pick up will begin the week of November 21. Those wishing to register can do so either online at drumstickdash.net or in person at the Rescue Mission’s main reception.
