Tyler Brown has been named the new head football coach for the Northside High School Vikings.  Brown, a special education teacher at Northside, served as an assistant coach from 2012-2014, where he was defensive coordinator for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.  Prior to joining the Vikings, Brown was an assistant football coach for Eastern Montgomery High School from 2009-2012.

Brown, a graduate of Glenvar High School, played football for Chowan University in North Carolina before transferring to Ferrum, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.  He also holds a Masters Degree in Special Education from Mary Baldwin University.

“I look forward to carrying on the strong Viking tradition,” said Brown.

“Northside is fortunate to have a coach of this caliber,” said interim principal Dr. Dan Lyons.  “He will unite this team and will unite the entire Northside community,” Dr. Lyons said.

“Tyler is committed to instruction, both in the classroom and on the field,” said incoming principal Dominick McKee.  “He is a great teacher and he will be a great head coach.  Under coach Brown’s direction, the Viking tradition will reach a new level,” McKee said.
