Mill Mountain Theatre will officially unveil the 2016 season with Smokey Joe’s Cafe, a tribute to songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Renowned national performers will entertain local audiences for twelve consecutive nights beginning on April 27 and running through May 8.

As the longest-running musical revue on Broadway, the Roanoke Valley will have the opportunity to experience the excitement of popular New York entertainment performed on the Trinkle Main Stage.

Last month The Music of Motown, the first music series show of the season, gave audience members a taste of the exceptional hits that would be part of the upcoming musical revue. The medley included a rendition of “I’m A Woman,” a top hit from 1962; “On Broadway,” the 1963 chart-topper by The Drifters; and the ever popular “Stand By Me.”

Smokey Joe’s Cafe will feature a collection of more than 40 top tunes from the fifties and sixties by The Coasters, one of the biggest performing acts of the rock and roll era, The Drifters, Elvis and other well-known artists. The on-stage party will feature classic hits listed on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.

Smokey Joe’s Cafe runs April 27 through May 8 on the Trinkle Main Stage in the Wells Fargo Auditorium at Center in the Square. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with the performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Saturday and Sunday Matinees will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. with doors opening at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available from the Center in the Square box office by calling (540) 342-5740 or online via Mill Mountain Theatre’s website at www.millmountain.org.
