Jones Named to Serve as Acting Roanoke City Police Chief

Roanoke City Manager Chris Morrill has named Deputy Chief Tim Jones to serve as Acting Roanoke Police Chief.

Jones will fill this role upon the retirement of Police Chief Chris Perkins, effective on March 1. Jones has served on the city’s police force since 1981, and currently commands the Uniform Operations Division, which is made up of the Patrol Bureau and the Community Response Bureau.

He is a graduate of the Harvard University-Kennedy School of Executive Education, the 232nd class of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, and the Senior Management Institute for Police Executives at Boston University. In addition, Jones has published articles in CALEA Update magazine and Police Chief magazine. He is also an adjunct professor at Virginia Western Community College.

A national search will be conducted for Perkins’ replacement.
