Surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and teachers, Ty Olinger ’16 committed to the golf program at West Virginia University this afternoon. He signed his National Letter of Intent at a special ceremony in the Carter Athletic Center.
Head coach of the WVU golf program, Sean Covich, and North Cross golf coach, Richard Cook, released the following statements:
“We are really excited to be adding Ty Olinger to our program,” said Coach Covich. “I look forward to getting Ty around our guys and having him compete with them. He’s a talented player who’s continued to improve over the years. I’m excited about his potential and him helping us build our WVU golf program.”

“I am very pleased that Ty will have this opportunity to pursue his passion to play competitive golf at the Division I level,” said Coach Cook. “He has been a wonderful addition to the golf team over the last few years, demonstrating how to both gracefully accept defeat and humbly accept victory. I have learned a lot from Ty, and I have really enjoyed his time at North Cross.”
Ty has been building his golf game over the past 15 years, and this spring will be his third year playing for North Cross. In that time, Coach Cook and Mr. Steve Prater have been two of his greatest golf mentors. Ty is looking forward to being part of the WVU golf program, and will use his experience to further his goal of becoming a PGA professional.
