Misions Back to SchoolOn August 10th The Roanoke Rescue Mission’s held its annual “Back 2 School Blast” which served more children than it ever has before. During the event, 1500 backpacks stuffed with age appropriate school supplies were given to children whose economically challenged families are finding it more and more difficult to afford the increasing prices of school supplies.

Back 2 School Blast is made possible by the generous donation of school supplies from individuals, businesses, organizations, and churches. Wish list items included: Loose Leaf Paper, Spiral Notebooks, 1” and 2” Three Ring Binders, Pocket Folders, Highlighters, Colored Pencils, Pencil Pouches, Crayons, Pencils, Pens, and Erasers, Crayola Markers, Glue Sticks, and Scissors.

“There is a 10% increase in the number of children being served this year as compared to last year,” says Leslie Littlefield, Volunteer Coordinator for the mission. “We had a very generous donation of backpacks which we filled with school supplies as they came in. The community has made it a priority by donating supplies so that every child in need will be ready and prepared to go back to school this fall. “
