The Myths and Misunderstandings of Inequality

The Sports sections of leading newspapers report the results of Sunday’s athletic contests in the Monday editions. Winners of various competitions including the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and the Professional Golf Association (PGA) are reported. The RBC Heritage tournament played at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C. ended Sunday, April 20 while the LPGA tourney held at the Ko Olina Golf Club in Kapolei, HI concluded on the same date.

The PGA tournament was a $5.8 million contest with Matt Kuchar winning $1,044,000. The LPGA tournament prize money amounted to $1.7 million with Michelle Wie earning $255,000. President Obama must have been horrified when he heard that the ladies’ winner won less than ¼ the amount of money won by the men’s champion. With the liberal war on women in full swing, what are these PGA professionals thinking?

The answer to this denigrating calamity is to trot out the Prize Payment Police, the Government Income Investigators and the Government Regulators of Rewards! The headquarters of the PGA should be locked down and Attorney General Eric Holder should file criminal charges with the United States Supreme Court. The Golf Industry is running amok and must be brought to justice. Prison terms should be handed out to the PGA perpetrators of such blatant gender bias.

The President has been adamant about gender compensation equality but there are other instances of inequality that should be in the discourse. For example, the IRS, the agency that is feared by many taxpayers is handing out bonuses of about $2.8 million plus thousands of hours of ‘compensatory’ time. An estimated $1 million of those bonuses were presented to employees who are delinquent taxpayers.

The monthly publication of statistics for March 2014 by the US Department of Labor shows that the unemployment rate stands at 6.7%. The rate for women 20 years and over is just 5.3% but the rate for Blacks is 12.4%, nearly double the national average. The unemployment rate for young men and women ages 16 to 19 entering the labor market is currently 18.3%. And the President has the audacity to demand that the minimum wage be increased, suppressing job opportunities for young workers struggling to find their first job.

Although some high school graduates do not have the capacity for ingesting and retaining four years of college knowledge, college attendance is automatically available.  President Obama has set up US taxpayers to fund college loans. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that 48% of college graduates are working in jobs that don’t require a college degree. A side effect is that 90% of high school ‘shop classes’ to learn trades have been discontinued. A company in Ohio is paying welders $150,000 to $200,000 per year.

Currently White House women employees are paid less than men. Women on Congressional staffs receive from 67¢ to 88¢ for each dollar paid to male staff. Average government bank regulators make more than the average bankers that they regulate. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) secretaries receive nearly $80,000 per year; limo drivers at the FDIC receive more than $82,000 and trainees at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) make over $110,000 annually. Average compensation at the FDIC in 2012 was $190,000.

President JFK signed the Equal Pay Act in 1963, making it illegal to pay individuals with equal qualifications differing compensation for equal efforts. This recent hype about unequal pay is simply demagoguery without basis in fact. It is insulting for our arrogant President to break the blessed silence with misleading words of hyperbole and absurdity.

Ultimately, government is unqualified and unfit to create equality using artificial variables among individuals in lieu of genuine qualifications such as knowledge, skill and acumen. The administration is betting that voters will pay attention to the fake assault on inequality to dampen the coming nauseous revulsion of the healthcare debacle with its loathsome regulations. When government conspires with organized labor to synthesize the labor market, suppression and oppression lead to depression.
