The Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA) has announced that Roanoke Veterinarian Dr. Jesse A. Webster is the 2014 recipient of the Paul F. Landis Veterinarian of the Year Award.

Presented in honor of former VVMA and American Veterinary Medical Association President Dr. Paul F. Landis, this award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to veterinary medicine and the creation of a strong local and state veterinary association.

Webster has been in veterinary practice in Vinton for more than 40 years. He opened Vinton Veterinary Hospital in May 1973 in order to be able to work at a small animal practice where he could take the time to strengthen the health of animals throughout the community.

Webster is a strong advocate for the development of small animal medicine and surgery, and he has invested his own money and time into new equipment and technologies. Webster has also served in several leadership capacities in the field, including president of the VVMA from 1985-1986 as well as president of the Roanoke Valley VMA, and as a member of the Virginia Board of Veterinary Medicine. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia

“We are very proud to present Dr. Jesse A. Webster with the 2014 Paul Landis Veterinarian of the Year Award,” said Terry Taylor, D.V.M., VVMA president-elect. “His involvement with the Vinton Veterinary Hospital and his devotion to the progress of Virginia veterinary medicine serves as an example for his strong leadership in both his community and state, and proves he is more than deserving of this honor.”
