Sheriff Octavia Johnson was named the Republican nominee for the January 7th special election in Virginia’s 11th House District. The election is being held to fill the vacancy left by retiring Delegate Onzlee Ware.

The deadline to file as a Republican candidate in the Delegate District 11 special election was 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 29th. John Brill, chair of the Roanoke City Republican Committee said that the only candidate to properly file for the Republican nomination for the Delegate District 11 special election was Octavia Johnson.

“In accordance with the call, as that only Octavia Johnson properly filed for that nomination, she is hereby declared the Republican nominee and no canvass will be held.”

“I am proud to be the nominee for my party,” declared Sheriff Johnson. “I am very excited to continue speaking with the citizens of Roanoke and listen to their concerns. We need a Delegate who will represent the people of Roanoke. As Delegate, I will fight to bring strong jobs to Roanoke, strengthen our schools, and work towards a safer community. I ask for your vote on January 7th.”

Brill said  ”Octavia is an experienced campaigner and has the determination and commitment that we need in a Republican candidate for Delegate District 11.”
