Apple Ridge Farm Becomes Part of National “Giving Library”

Roanokers can direct money to the local children’s charity by simply sharing a link on Facebook and Twitter

Giving LibraryRoanoke’s  Apple Ridge Farm has been selected to be part of a national charitable “Giving Library” created by the Laura and John Arnold Foundation (LJAF). Many may remember their work during the government shutdown when they stepped up to help fund many human service organizations that otherwise would have closed.

Apple Ridge Farm Director Peter Lewis flew to Houston, Texas in August to make a video about the mission of Apple Ridge Farm and as a result the Roanoke non-profit that helps underserved Roanoke children with outdoor and classroom educational experiences is now part of the Giving Library.

The Giving Library, an online video archive that connects donors to nonprofits, kicked off a $100,000 “Share to Give” campaign on “Giving Tuesday,” (December 3.) Visitors to the Giving Library website (www.givinglibrary.org) are able to view videos for hundreds of charitable organizations across the U.S.

By signing up for a free Library Card, viewers can show their support for an organization by sharing that group’s video on Facebook or Twitter, and the Giving Library will donate $5 to that particular organization. Participants can share up to five organizations per month, and the Giving Library will donate up to $100,000 during the campaign.

“Some of the organizations are well known and others you may have never heard of,” said Giving Library Manager Kerry Vaughan. “But now is the perfect time to explore. When you find organizations that you like, one of the easiest ways to show your support is to share their videos. There are no gimmicks and no matching contributions. You share; we donate—it’s that simple.”

To help Apple Ridge Farm receive donations with no cost to you just do the following:

1.  Go to www.givinglibrary.org

2. Sign up for a free Giving Library Card

3.  Locate the Apple Ridge video (You can type in Apple Ridge Farm in the site search bar to locate Apple Ridge Farm.)

4. Share the Apple Ridge Farm video by Facebook or Twitter.

The Giving Library will then donate $5.00 to Apple Ridge. All donations are made by The Giving Library. Note this campaign starts Tuesday, Dec. 3 so we are hopeful you will be able to help with this request.  It is on a first come/first served basis to get a share of the $100,000, so please get the word out as soon as you can.
