Having already seen their team don the unique “Hokie Stone” helmets, Virginia Tech fans are petitioning that the school create another special helmet in honor of one of the university’s most popular cult traditions. Over the past year, “Horse
on a treadmill” has gained significant popularity on campus thanks to the school’s “Invent the Future” commercial that
features Virginia Tech scientists monitoring a horse running on a treadmill.
A new online petition urging the Virginia Tech Athletic Department to put a horse on a treadmill on VT game helmets is gaining traction among students and sports fans. The Change.org petition, started by Sam Rubenking of Blacksburg, has collected more than 1,000 signatures since it was launched on Sunday.
Some of the reasons for signing the signature are quite hilarious. “I came to Tech after seeing the horse in a commercial”
“Without that horse, I wouldn’t even know how to horse.”
“IT MEANS SO MUCH BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE HAS A HORSE ON A TREADMILL”
“Horse on treadmill is a part of VT history and tradition.”
Maybe UVA’s horse and rider mascot will jump in and ride a treadmill on the sidelines during
the game.
