Wild Bill’s Sports Roundup!

It’s hard to imagine that the final week of the high school football regular season is here. Seems like it was only yesterday that we opened in the dog days of August.

The Wild Bill ” Big-11″ has fared well, and nine of our eleven squads are still in the mix for playoff spots. Tonight’s key match ups will have a lot to say on seedings, so there’s a lot on the line in week-11.
Before we get to the prediction slate, the Wild Bill column wants to thank everyone who came out last Sunday for the fourth annual Dave Ross Biddy Bowl at  Dwight Bogel Stadium. Two great pee-wee football games raised over $3,000 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation. The total raised through four years of the Biddy Bowl now exceeds $8,000.
The Roanoke Valley Sports Club presents Carol Robertson, new Virginia Tech women’s golf coach, as its guest speaker for the Monday, November 18th meeting. The evening starts with a social at 5:45 followed by the dinner meeting at 6:15. Guests and potential new members are encouraged to attend. For information call Maggie Drewry at 540-353-1103.
Now, to this week’s six regular season finales. Last week, the Ouija fired out an impressive 7-2 record and stands at 63-19 for the year. Here’s a look at week eleven.
WILLIAM BYRD at LORD BOTETOURT: The Cavaliers go for the perfect 10-0 regular season against the Terriers in Daleville. Byrd has been plagued by injuries down the stretch. Nonetheless, expect this one to be close.  Lord Botetourt- 27  William Byrd- 24
NORTHSIDE at ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY: The Vikings make the trip to Lexington going for a 9-1 finish only marred by the overtime loss to Botetourt two weeks ago. Northside may have too many guns on both sides of the ball. Northside- 42  Rockbridge County- 13
PATRICK HENRY at WILLIAM FLEMING: Fleming closes out their year at home in the cross-city rivalry. First year Fleming coach Bobby Martin has turned the Colonel program around, but PH is the real deal. With nothing to lose, expect Fleming to pull out all the tricks. Patrick Henry- 35   William Fleming- 20
CAVE SPRING at HIDDEN VALLEY: The Southwest County shootout for The Paint Can Trophy and bragging rights for another year. Cave Spring pulled out the miracle last Friday against Blacksburg in overtime. This one may go the same way. Hidden Valley- 28   Cave Spring- 27
PULASKI COUNTY at SALEM: This was once the biggest game of the season for the Spartans. Salem may have too much power for the Cougars in 2013. Salem is well positioned for the playoffs. Salem- 38    Pulaski County- 15
GILES at GLENVAR: Giles brings its perfect 9-0 record to Highlander Heaven where a 5-4 Glenvar team awaits. Giles is on a roll that may well continue into postseason. Giles- 40     Glenvar- 25
NORTH CROSS at FISHBURNE MILITARY (SAT): The VIS Division 3 playoff game finds the 7-2 Raiders taking on undefeated Fishburne. The Raiders thrive on these games. Upset special. North Cross- 34   Fishburne Military- 28
A quick look at the mailbag where Loudmouth pants have gotten a lot of attention this season in football and volleyball.
Dear Wild Bill: You seem to have on a different pair of those outrageous pants at every game. How many different pairs do you have?  (Wilma/Daleville)
Haven’t even counted, Wilma. But, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
Watch for the playoff schedule next week and the Wild Bill Top-5 highlights of the season two weeks from today. You may be surprised at what you missed on Friday night lights.
